Make a stand for fair trade fashion - support our “Still Alive” campaign
In April, the world was appalled by the pictures and reports coming from Bangladesh: hundreds of people killed and thousands more injured and missing following the collapse of the Rana Plaza garment factory in Dhaka. And even worse, major clothing retailers in the West were linked to the tragedy. The scale of the incident generated 24/7 news coverage, but the terrible fact is, many other similar disasters have gone largely unreported and been forgotten.
So the question has to be asked: given today’s culture of cheap, disposable fashion, are you, right now, wearing an item of clothing made by someone who was seriously injured or killed in one of these disasters and you don’t know it? And as consumers, driving the demand for fast fashion, can we honestly say we are guilt-free?
It’s time to change our thinking and stand up for ethical working practices. And the power is in our hands! By buying products that are ethically-made, fair-wage and cruelty-free, we can really make a difference!
