A luxurious and special blend of fibres that create a soft lustrous fabric with a structure very similar to taffeta. Handwoven from banana tree fibre and organic cotton, this textile is lightweight and supple, perfect for bridalwear, couture-finishings, embroidery and millinery. You could also use it for really special dresses and tops.
Abaca is a fibre that comes from the trunk of a non-fruit bearing banana tree. The trunk of the tree is soaked in nearby rivers for softening, making it more manageable to separate the fibres. The abaca is then knotted to become yarn, and hand-woven on electric-free looms by women in a cooperative on a Southern Philippines island.
The blending with US organic cotton offers the fabric further durability and functionality.
Note that the warmer tone in the second batch of images was taken indoors, though should help in appreciating the grain.
To care for your product:
Suitable for washing in your machine on a cold temperature, as well as hand wash. You can also dry clean, though we recommend avoiding this due to the chemicals used. This fabric can handle high steam, so you could utilise this to release odours.
Turn the machine down to 30 degrees for a more environmentally friendly wash and use mild detergent. In Europe alone, if every household turned its washing temperature down to 30°C, we could save 12 million tons of CO2 a year.
