A super soft single jersey in a light cream hue made from milk fibre. Yes, milk! Exclusive to Offset Warehouse.
Price is per metre. Multiple quantities will be cut as a continuous length.
The single jersey is knitted fine, with a slight translucency. It's exquisitely soft and good for your skin, with a natural breathable feeling. It has a slight stretch across the grain with a fairly good recovery considering there is no elastane, but there is no stretch on the grain or on the bias. This makes it most suitable for loose-fitting garments like t-shirts, dresses, underwear, loungewear, pyjamas and pillowcases. At 160cm wide, you also have a lot to work with.
It is creamy in colour, with a matte appearance, and is slightly sheer when held to the light. The creamy tone differs depending on the light (the video shows late afternoon indoor light, while the photos are morning sunshine).
Milk production results in a lot of by-product due to legislation that prevents "unhealthy" milk from being traded. So textile innovators came up with a way to take unwanted milk protein casein and transform it for technical purposes into yarn. The protein is extruded in a similar way to other technical fibres, with a spinnaret, meaning that water consumption is kept low. As this is a new fibre, the production is a closely guarded secret.
This jersey, knitted in Italy, is blended with "eco viscose" for durability. Eco viscose is wood pulp that comes from sustainably-managed forests. Viscose helps add slinkiness to the material.
This fabric has also been Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified, so that you know it doesn't contain any hazardous chemicals.
Sewing experience: This fabric is delicate and slippery to work with, so we would recommend a good knowledge of sewing to enjoy working with it.
To Care for Your Product
Suitable for hand and machine washing at low temperatures or dry cleaning.
Turn the machine down to 30 degrees for a more environmentally friendly wash. In Europe alone, if every household turned its washing temperature down to 30°C, we could save 12 million tons of CO2 annually.
We also recommend line drying as this reduces energy usage and looks after your textiles for longer. Use a mild detergent, light botanical refresher or even just steam the item you've made in your bathroom after a shower. Just a cool iron, if necessary.
