Stunning, heavier weight cotton, handwoven in a fair trade accredited female-led co-operative, showcasing cotton fibre's beauty in its natural undyed colour.
Price is per metre. Multiple quantities will be cut in a continuous length.
One of our - and your - favourites. A gorgeous chunky, ecru cotton with a great structure and hold. Incredibly soft despite being thicker, it feels lovely against your skin. It's a 2-ply basket weave, which means that the fabric has two thick threads woven together simultaneously, creating a unique texture, hand feel and appearance.
The strong weave structure means that the cotton is particularly durable for items such as bags and accessories, upholstery, and soft homewares. It is ideal for naturally dyeing and embroidering as it's undyed. It is 10.6oz making it a perfect weight for jackets, lined summer coats, trousers and skirts.
Please note, as this is a handwoven and hand-dyed fabric, with organic cotton fibre that is hand-picked and processed, you may find minor irregularities in the weave. While it is very rare that this occurs, we hope you see this as part of the charm.

The spinning of the organic cotton into yarn, weaving the fabric on power looms, and bleaching of the finished material is all done in a female-led co-operative in rural India, certified Fair Trade by the WFTO (World Fair Trade Organisation). Organic cotton is cotton grown without pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilisers and is picked by hand to retain the integrity of the cellulosic fibre. Non-GMO seeds are used in organic cotton cultivation, ensuring that the farmers are not caught in a web of debt with large companies. This organic cotton is non-certified, being more of a transitional crop to help support farmers and small communities who cannot afford the certification.
All cotton production uses a lot of water and chemicals in its production, however, this fabric is created using rain-fed organically-cultivated cotton, spun and woven with little electricity, and without dyeing - so it is undyed. The material is biodegradable under the right conditions.
Suitable for the washing machine and tumble dryer. Iron med temperature, though it's probably not so necessary!
Turn the machine down to 30 degrees for a more environmentally friendly wash. In Europe alone, if every household turned its washing temperature down to 30°C, we could save 12 million tons of CO2 a year.
We also recommend line drying as this reduces energy usage and looks after your textiles for longer. Use a mild detergent, light botanical refresher or even just steam the item you've made in your bathroom after a shower. We suggest drying flat if possible to prevent stretching in the weave.
Note that fabrics can shrink around 3-5%, so please prewash all fabrics before sewing.
