Chunky, soft and cosy organic cotton fleece in a classic khaki colour. At 280gsm, this is a reasonably lightweight fleece fabric making it versatile for clothing, blanket backing and cushions. The brushed fleece is on the underside only, with a smooth jersey upper. With just the right amount of stretch for comfort without sagging.

Ethical and sustainability considerations:

Organic cotton is better for people and planet as no pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilisers were used in the agriculture of the cotton, cultivation of the fibre and production of the fabric. This fabric and its processes have been certified GOTS by the ICEA. The organic cotton is from Fairtrade-only farms, and the material is produced in a facility committed to social and welfare measures, including workers receiving a living wage. There is a strict policy of no child or forced labour.

The dyeing process is done with a zero liquid discharge system, and 95% of the water is retrieved by an effluent treatment plant so that dye water can be reused. 5% of the water is evaporated, and the remaining sludge is used to make bricks and road-laying and is also bought by cement factories to use as fillers.  

Certified organic cotton ensures no nasties were involved in the fabric's growing, production and finishing. It means that in the right conditions, this fabric is also biodegradable.

To care for your product:

Suitable for the washing machine and tumble dryer.

Turn the machine down to 30˚ for a more environmentally friendly wash. In Europe alone, if every household turned its washing temperature down to 30°C, we could save 12 million tons of CO2 annually. We recommend line drying as this reduces energy usage and looks after your textiles for longer; dry flat where possible to prevent stretching. Use a mild detergent, light botanical refresher, or steam the item you've made in your bathroom after a shower. Cold wash is best for cotton, especially to prevent the fabric from shrinking. If you need to iron, use the cotton setting on the non-fleece side to prevent creating any shine.

We recommend pre-washing your fabric before making any items, as there is a suggested 3-5% shrinkage allowance, a standard for finished materials.
