Olive Oversized Paisley Tencel

Regular price £22.50 Sale price £19.50

Limited quantity, once it's gone it's gone!

A smooth and soft Tencel fabric, with a deep olive green base, and covered in an oversized paisley print. The textile is completely opaque, so you don't need to line the material or double it for clothing. Also available in Burgundy. Use it for floaty dresses, blouses, jacket linings, silky pyjamas, cushions, and accessories.

Ethical production:

Tencel is actually a brand name for lyocell, a cellulose made from dissolving wood pulp. Solvents are used in manufacturing so that the wood pulp mixture can be made into fibre, however, these chemicals are kept within a closed loop. Manufacturing Tencel requires less energy and water than cotton, and Lenzing in particular sources its wood from certified and controlled sources like sustainably-managed plantations.

As well as using less water and land than cotton, this particular fabric is reclaimed, meaning it has been saved from landfill. The dye process is also toxin-free, and lyocell absorbs dyes better so requires less of this than cotton too. It's naturally breathable, biodegradable (despite the solvents) and dries quickly.

To care for your product

Suitable for the washing machine and tumble dryer.

Turn the machine down to 30 degrees for a more environmentally friendly wash. In Europe alone, if every household turned its washing temperature down to 30°C, we could save 12 million tons of CO2 a year.

We also recommend line drying as this reduces energy usage and looks after your textiles for longer. Use a mild detergent, light botanical refresher or even just steam the item you've made in your bathroom after a shower.

Please note: customers have reported that white lines appear on the fabric surface after intense washing with fast spin cycles and tumble-drying. Washing the fabric minimally, with eco-friendly detergent and gentle spin cycle avoids marking. If in doubt, hand washing is always best to minimise agitation and keep your fabric looking better for longer.

Ideal For:

Hand Sewing; Machine Sewing; Clothing including skirts, dresses, tops, trousers and shorts; Underwear, sleepwear and lingerie; Linings; Soft Furnishings, including tablecloths and serviettes; Curtains and cushions

Glad I chose this fabric

I took a punt on tencel for this Megan Nielsen Brumby skirt. I'm more used to cotton but was looking for a sustainable alternative. This fabric is Lenzing, which has a reputation for worker and environmental welfare. I enjoyed working with this cloth. As well as having more structure it's a little more slippery so I used more clips and it wasn't a problem - it's also pretty stable. I needed to iron it quite often while under construction, and I used a pressing cloth at all times because I read that you should (I also read that tencel doesn't crease but it does). I really like wearing the skirt I made out of it. The colours and pattern are really striking and people spontaneously compliment it.

Beautiful fabric

I've made this fabric into a loose pinafore dress for myself. I saw a dress online and made up a pattern for the project.
This fabric cuts crisply and there's minimal fraying. Its medium weight so I'd recommend using a lining fabric for facings so you can sew a well shaped edge.
Its flow and drapes but is a good weight for autumn and winter.
The colour is fabulous, grown up and chic.
