A stunning handwoven, hand-printed fabric in a bright scarlet red, peppered with big white flowers.
Price is per metre. Multiple quantities will be cut in a continuous length.
A design that will transcend seasons and works in both fashion and interiors. A completely opaque, lightweight fabric with a crisp texture, good drape and a full body. Cambric is a smooth and fine plain weave, very similar to batiste. It is warm and soft to the touch, with a light summery drape perfect for clothing, childrenswear, blinds and pillowcases. It will soften with each washing and with wear.
The design is printed by hand using a screen (rather than a block as was the original technique when we first started stocking this fabric - see Instagram for the video of it in action!). The dyes are totally ironable and colourfast (although we always recommend washing your fabrics before you make) and the fabric can be washed in washing machines.
The fabric is handwoven using organic cotton so the farmers and cotton processors do not come into contact with pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilisers. The fabric itself is woven within a community that is certified fair trade by the WFTO. Although it does not have organic certification, due to the additional expense this incurs, which the weavers can not currently afford, this is far better for people and planet than conventional cotton.
Organic cotton is better for our soil, because no pesticides, chemical fertilisers or herbicides have been used. It means that there are no toxic substances passed on in the processing and then through to the finished fabric. The dyes used for the base colour and print are azo-free, totally ironable and colourfast (although we always recommend washing your fabrics before you make). As it is handwoven, the process from raw material production to weaving and printing uses little energy and water.
Please note: due to the nature of handwoven and hand printed fabrics, there can be irregularities in the weave and print, along with variations in batch dye colour. The dark red is the current batch. This fabric is printed especially for us.
Suitable for washing machines below 30°C and tumble dryers, although due to the intricate, loose weave, we would recommend handwashing only. To protect fabrics for longer, hand wash in cool water. Suitable for irons med-hot temperature.
Turn the machine down to 30 degrees for a more environmentally friendly wash. In Europe alone, if every household turned its washing temperature down to 30°C, we could save 12 million tons of CO2 a year.
We also recommend line drying as this reduces energy usage and looks after your textiles for longer (as they don't get bashed around in your tumble dryer). Use a mild detergent, light botanical refresher or even steam the item you've made in your bathroom after a shower.
Natural handwoven fabrics have a natural tendency to shrink 3-5%, so please wash this textile before you create any products that will require washing at a later date.

Due to the nature of handwoven and hand-printed fabrics, there can be irregularities in the weave and print, along with variations in batch dye colour. We have quality controlled this fabric. However, there could be minor irregularities that we love and see as normal and charming. If you are unhappy with the material you purchase, please let us know, and we'll do our best to rectify it immediately: firstname.lastname@example.org.
