A stunning steel blue-grey cotton fabric, handwoven by a small cooperative in India.

Price is per metre. Multiple quantities will be cut as a continuous length.

Fabric Description

A handwoven fabric in a stunning dark grey colour with a blue hue. It has a warm, subtle textured feel with a soft, dry handle reminiscent of linen. Chambray is characterised by the yarn-dyed process involving a beautiful blend of white threads woven for the weft, with coloured yarn for the warp. The fabric is 45"/110cm wide and approximately 65gsm, so it is incredibly lightweight and suitable for projects, particularly for summer, including blouses, shirts, easy loungewear, summer trousers and dresses, light blankets and quilts, sheer blinds and accessories. To prevent sheerness for garments, you might like to line or double-up the material. It washes beautifully and gets softer and more characterful with every wash.

Pair with sustainable buttonsnatural elastics and organic cotton threads in silver grey.

Ethical and Sustainability Considerations:

The fabric is handwoven on small power looms using cotton in Southern India. The cotton fibre used for this fabric is spun within small artisan clusters, and the material is woven within a community known as a "khadi cluster" in Bengal. The weavers set their prices for their work.

Fabric that is produced within the same country prevents unnecessary shipping during production. The dyes used for the material are azo-free, ironable and colourfast (although we always recommend washing your fabrics before you sew).

Suitable For:

Bedding, Blinds, Curtains & Pelmets, Cushions, Hand Sewing, Handkerchiefs and Napkins, Lining & Pocketing, Loungewear, Machine Sewing, Quilts, Scarves & Neckwear, Shirts & Blouses, Sleepwear, Summer Skirts & Dresses, Table Runner, Tops & Tunics, Trousers & Shorts, Underwear & Lingerie

Sewing Experience: ideal for novice sewers.

To care for your product:

Suitable for washing machines and tumble dryers. To protect fabrics for longer, hand wash in cool water. Suitable for irons med-hot temperature.

Turn the machine down to 30 degrees for a more environmentally friendly wash. In Europe alone, if every household turned its washing temperature down to 30°C, we could save 12 million tons of CO2 a year.

We also recommend line drying as this reduces energy usage and looks after your textiles for longer (as they don't get bashed around in your tumble dryer). Use a mild detergent, light botanical refresher or even just steam the item you've made in your bathroom after a shower.

Natural handwoven fabrics have a natural tendency to shrink 3-5%, so please wash this textile before you create any products that will require washing at a later date.

Wholesale And Restocking

Stepped pricing is available on 25 metres and over, so please inquire if you are looking for large amounts. We love working with smaller brands: purchase one metre and upwards directly from the website and email us for wholesale quantities for bulk production when you're ready. We welcome large and small orders from brands of all sizes.

Please note

Please note that refunds are not possible once fabrics have been cut, unless in the unfortunate event that your material arrives damaged. Please order a swatch before purchasing your metre lengths.

Due to the nature of handwoven and hand-printed fabrics, there can be irregularities in the weave and print, along with variations in batch dye colour. We have quality controlled this fabric. However, there could be minor irregularities that we love and see as normal and charming. If you are unhappy with the material you purchase, please let us know, and we'll do our best to rectify it immediately: info@offsetwarehouse.com.
