Organic Scarlet Floral Hand Block Cotton Cambric

250-CP6-T60-OTR

Regular price £31.50 Sale price £15.75

A stunning handwoven, hand-printed fabric in a bright scarlet red, peppered with big white flowers.

Price is per metre. Multiple quantities will be cut in a continuous length.

Product Description

A design that will transcend seasons and works in both fashion and interiors. A completely opaque, lightweight fabric with a crisp texture, good drape and a full body. Cambric is a smooth and fine plain weave, very similar to batiste. It is warm and soft to the touch, with a light summery drape perfect for clothing, childrenswear, blinds and pillowcases. It will soften with each wash and with wear.

The design is printed by hand using a screen (rather than a block, as was the original technique when we first started stocking this fabric - see Instagram for the video of it in action). The dyes are totally ironable and colourfast (although we always recommend washing your fabrics before you make), and the fabric can be washed in washing machines.

Ethical and Sustainability Considerations

The fabric is handwoven using organic cotton, so the farmers and cotton processors do not come into contact with pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilisers. The material is woven within a community certified fair trade by the WFTO. Although it does not have organic certification, due to the additional expense this incurs, which the weavers can not currently afford, this is far better for people and the planet than conventional cotton.

Organic cotton is better for our soil because no pesticides, chemical fertilisers or herbicides have been used. It means that no toxic substances are passed on in the processing and then through to the finished fabric. The dyes used for the base colour and print are azo-free, totally ironable and colourfast (although we always recommend washing your fabrics before you make). As it is handwoven, the process from raw material production to weaving and printing uses little energy and water.

To Care for Your Product

Suitable for the washing machine and tumble dryer, though to protect the hand-blocked natural dye print for longer, we recommend hand washing any item you make with this textile. Iron med-hot temperature on the reverse to protect the print.

Turn the machine down to 30 degrees for a more environmentally friendly wash. In Europe alone, if every household turned its washing temperature down to 30°C, we could save 12 million tons of CO2 annually.

We also recommend line drying, which reduces energy usage and looks after your textiles for longer. Use a mild detergent, light botanical refresher, or steam the item you've made in your bathroom after a shower.

Wholesale And Restocking

Stepped pricing is available for 25 metres and over, so please inquire if you are looking for large amounts. We love working with smaller brands: purchase one metre and upwards directly from the website and email us for wholesale quantities for bulk production when you're ready. We welcome large and small orders from brands of all sizes. See our full wholesale guidelines here

Please Note

Please note that refunds are not possible once fabrics have been cut, unless in the unfortunate event that your material arrives damaged. Please order a swatch before purchasing your metre lengths. Please see our Refunds and Cancellation Policy page for full details.

Due to the nature of handwoven and hand-printed fabrics, there can be irregularities in the weave and print, along with variations in batch dye colour. We have quality controlled this fabric. However, there could be minor irregularities that we love and see as normal and charming. If you are unhappy with the material you purchase, please let us know, and we'll do our best to rectify it immediately: info@offsetwarehouse.com.
