Regular price £85.88 Sale price £60.12

Beautiful, soft peace or "ahimsa" silk fabric, with a stunning drape and airiness. It has a soft creamy colour that glows in the light.

Price is per metre. Multiple quantities will be cut in a continuous length.

Fabric Description

This stunning fabric has a dry, warm and smooth touch. Beautiful for blouses, tops, scarves and underwear. We also like this peace silk for luxe tableware and drapes, and of course, for bridalwear and couture trims. The weave is very unusual as a durable satin weave, with an incredible, soft lustre.

The fabric has a weight of 30 mommes (1 momme = 4.340g per sq/m) and will take natural dyes and print well (check swatches or a sample metre for batch production). Note that there is an estimated 4% shrinkage in both the warp and weft, so add to your order accordingly.

Pair the fabric with this natural organic cotton thread and some beautiful, ethical buttons. Not sure if the material's the right pick for you? Pick up a swatch first, or get in touch with our expert team, who will respond within one working day: info@offsetwarehouse.com.

Ethical & sustainability considerations:

Produced on small family farms, the silk is cultivated using techniques consistent with Organic Cultivation Standards. 100% natural, it means that no additives, bleaches or finishes have been used - better for people and planet. For the silkworms, organic standards mean that they are fed mulberry leaves that have been organically cultivated. When it comes to peace silk, the moth has been allowed to complete its full transformation, emerging from the cocoon alive and able to continue mating. Additionally, the eggs are raised every year from one strain, assisting in the conservation of the species. This means that the fibre tends to be of a shorter length, and so the woven textile may have some small irregularities where there is slub in the yarn.

Silk is biodegradable (in the right anaerobic conditions), so it can be composted at the end of its life. Silk is also an incredibly strong fibre that will last for a very long time anyway, so with non-certified organic cultivation and processing, this fabric benefits the land before and after its production. This particular textile is natural in colour, being undyed and unbleached.

To care for your product:

We recommend that you eco-dry clean or hand wash this fabric. Use a mild detergent, or none at all, to keep it fresh and light throughout its life. Machine wash on a gentle cycle with mild soap and warm water. If you're making lingerie, washing these items within a drawstring bag is often beneficial to prevent too much agitation and wear on the fabric.

Tumble dry on low heat, though we recommend air drying to ensure longer-lasting items. You can also iron dry from a barely damp state on the "wrong" side, which can also help with creasing. Never use bleach. Always test a small swatch or section of the garment before sewing if in doubt or creating for a brand.

Sewing experience: As a slippery fabric, it's recommended for more experienced sewers.

Please Note

Please note that refunds are not possible once fabrics have been cut, unless in the unfortunate event that your material arrives damaged. Please order a swatch before purchasing your metre lengths. Please see our Refunds and Cancellation Policy page for full details.

Due to the nature of handwoven and hand-printed fabrics, there can be irregularities in the weave. We have quality controlled this fabric. However, there could be minor irregularities that we love and see as normal and charming. If you are unhappy with the material you purchase, please let us know, and we'll do our best to rectify it immediately: info@offsetwarehouse.com.
