2.7m Light Blue Striped Ikat
A light blue ikat that has been spun, dyed and woven entirely by hand using absolutely no electricity. We have sourced this fabric directly from a small weaving village in Thailand, and all sales directly support this community and ensure that they are paid fair wages. It's a soft, mediumweight fabric, with a beautiful drape and is completely opaque - so there is no need to double it up. The stripes run down the length of the fabric, incorporating a mixture of traditional pin stripe patterningand ikat patterning banded together to create blocks of pattern. Each metre takes approximately four hours to weave, and an entire bolt takes more than an entire month. Despite the traditional, handweave methods used to create the textile, the design is fashion-forward and modern. The weight and design of the fabric makes it ideal for both garments and home furnishings. There is a bit of give on the bias, and it drapes wonderfully. You may like to use an interfacing with the textile, to create a longer lasting high-rub item. The fabric has been yarn-dyed (the yarn is dyed before it is woven) with natural indigo dyes, and no chemical mordants are used. The yarns used are quite thick, so you can see the woven pattern. The material is warm to touch and smooth with a slight texture. As the fabric is 100% cotton, it is totally biodegradable. The fabric is colourfast and pre-shrunk, but we always recommend that the fabrics are washed before use.
