Please note: the co-operative that weaves this fabric has stopped production. Unfortunately it means that we need to source an alternative, so this fabric is now unavailable.
A chunky, basket weave cotton canvas in its undyed, natural, beige colour, with a fantastic structure and hold. Moreover, its strong basket weave structure means that the cotton is particularly durable, which makes it suitable for clothing, accessories and furnishings.
The colour of the fabric is slightly speckled - a common trait in undyed, cotton textiles. The beige basket weave cotton is also ideal for dyeing. The cotton used to make the chunky basket weave cotton canvas is organic (although this is not certified), meaning that it is grown without pesticides, and that the fibres are totally biodegradable.
As this fabric is hand-woven, there are some small weaving irregularities, although this arguably adds to the quality and overall look of the fabric. The spinning and weaving is done in a cooperative and certified Fair Trade by the WFTO. As the basket weave cotton is a handmade product, the process uses virtually no electricity - including in the spinning process! Creases iron out easily. The chunky basket weave cotton is similar to our un-dyed cream twill fabric.

Turn the machine down to 30 degrees for a more environmentally friendly wash. In Europe alone, if every household turned its washing temperature down to 30°C, we could save 12 million tons of CO2 a year
