Recycled cotton shirting fabric in a striking green and navy "blackwatch" check pattern.
Price is per metre. Multiple quantities will be cut as a continuous length.
58"/147cm wide, and approximately 130gsm means that it is suitable for light to mediumweight projects including blouses, shirts, cosy loungewear, light blankets and quilts, linings and blinds, dresses and accessories. It has a brushed finish so is super comfortable, soft and warming. The appearance and hand feel is bold and wholesome.
The checks measure: each block from green edge to black edge is 72mm (weft) x 86mm (warp)
Brushed cotton is very straightforward to sew with, as it is stable and non-slippery. It has been machine woven and is therefore consistent and smooth. This fabric has the inclusion of recycled polyester, allowing it the strength consisten with synthetic fibres. It will also dry quicker.
Helping to support small production clusters in India, this cotton fabric is produced in a powerloom unit utilising both pre-consumer cotton waste and post-consumer polyester textile discard. It is Global Recycle Standard certified as assured by Control Union.
As the fibres are recovered from textile waste, there are no additional dyes required making it a low impact textile that utilises existing resources.
Please note: due to the nature of recycled fabrics, there may be some slight irregularities in the weave caused by yarn differences e.g. slubs.
Suitable for the washing machine and tumble dryer. Iron cool-medium temperature, but it is suggested to do so when damp, or spray a little water on it first to protect the brushed finish, and iron on the reverse if possible. Also, try not to twist and if possible dry flat.
Turn the machine down to 30 degrees for a more environmentally-friendly wash. In Europe alone, if every household turned its washing temperature down to 30°C, we could save 12 million tons of CO2 a year.
We also recommend line drying as this reduces energy usage and looks after your textiles for longer. Use a mild detergent, light botanical refresher or even just steam the item you've made in your bathroom after a shower.

I love this fabric. It's so soft and cosy. I made it into a shirt and it was easy to work with and lovely to wear. It's a great weight for shirts or dresses and has a lovely drape. I'm thinking that I need to get the other colourways too! Really could give it 5 stars but I'm waiting to see how it washes and wears! Looking good so far.
Thank you so much for such a lovely review! Your shirt is GORGEOUS.
Please do remember to come back and let us know how it washes and wears (and, fingers crossed, bump the rating up to 5 stars!)
