This fabric is actually a softly structured French Terry, meaning it is smooth on the front and has an incredibly soft texture on the back. Combining the cooling comfortable properties of both bamboo and organic cotton, it also has elastane in the composition to help the fabric retain shape and give added comfort (67% bamboo 27% organic cotton 6% elastane). This fabric is ideal for making soft tailored items such as jackets, jumpers and dresses, along with cosy underwear, sleepwear and cushions.
Organic cotton is grown without the use of harmful substances, with the entire chain controlled to not allow banned substances in the production (GOTS certification). This protects people, our land, and us the users and wearers.
Grown without the use of pesticides, herbicides or other chemical fertilisers, organic cotton is simply better for your health and the environment, and for the people who produce the fabrics. Because organic agriculture doesn't use toxic pesticides, choosing organic products is an easy way to help protect the environment and yourself. Organic cotton reduces water use, it is hand picked ensuring a better quality fibre and does not allow GMO crop - better for the farmers' livelihoods and overall health.
Bamboo is a renewable fibre that grows readily and quickly. It does use chemicals in its production in order to transform it into a rayon fibre ready for knitting, but this fabric is GOTS certified so it is likely that the chemicals are low in toxicity or otherwise the bamboo linen process is used instead (slower, more laborious but the fibre is processed like flax with enzyme retting).
The dyes are low impact azo-free that are also VOC (Volatile Organic Compound)-free ensuring that the workers, the efflluents and your skin are protected from banned substances that are known carcinogens.
To care for your product
Suitable for the washing machine and tumble dryer, but we recommend cotton 30˚ washing and air drying.
Turn the machine down to 30 degrees for a more environmentally friendly wash. In Europe alone, if every household turned its washing temperature down to 30°C, we could save 12 million tons of CO2 a year. We recommend line drying as this reduces energy usage and looks after your textiles for longer - try to dry jersey flat to avoid creasing and then you don't need to iron. Use a mild detergent, light botanical refresher or even just steam the item you've made in your bathroom after a shower. Iron on the reverse with a cool temperature due to the elastane. It doesn't lose any of its beautiful colour in washing.
