A lightweight organic cotton twill fabric in a cool concrete grey.

It is immensely pliable and drapey, with a natural bias grain stretch in both directions due to the twill weave. There is a tiny amount of give in the cross grain, so overall this will be a comfortable fabric for many styles of garments including blouses, very light trousers and shorts, skirts, dresses, dungarees, and would even work as a lining for a chunkier item of clothing. You could also use it for curtains, blinds and cushions, or for quilting.

This fabric is also available in periwinkle blue, nude beige, sage green and jet black. *Please note, for some reason the colours were very difficult to photograph! If in doubt, please purchase a swatch. The best match to the real thing however, is in the main image of all five colours together.

Ethical production:

The spinning and weaving is done by skilled artisans in an Indian weaving community of which there are 600+ members. We source this particular fabric from a business that works directly with various weaving communities.

Organic cotton itself if cotton grown without pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilisers, and is picked by hand to retain the integrity of the cellulosic fibre. Non-GMO seeds are used in organic cotton cultivation, ensuring that the farmers are not caught in a web of debt with large companies.

This is a GOTS-certified organic cotton. This means that throughout the fibre cultivation, fibre harvest and processing, and through to the yarn production and fabric making steps, no harmful chemicals, pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilisers were used.

The yarn is machine-spun, which means it has exemplar consistency and quality throughout the weave. The colouration is also smooth and equal due to the fabric dyeing process, and washes very well. The dyes are certified azo-free - azo is an organic compound used in dyes and is a known carcinogen.

To care for your product:

Suitable for the washing machine and tumble dryer. Iron med-hot temperature on the reverse to prevent 'shinyness' of the twill from occuring.

Turn the machine down to 30 degrees for a more environmentally friendly wash. In Europe alone, if every household turned its washing temperature down to 30°C, we could save 12 million tons of CO2 a year.

We also recommend line drying as this reduces energy usage and looks after your textiles for longer. Use a mild detergent, light botanical refresher or even just steam the item you've made in your bathroom after a shower.

Note, this textile has been finished and washed, but we recommend to wash the fabric before making any products to avoid disappointment that could occur in shrinkage. Dependent on your machine, detergent and laundering methods, shrinkage can still occur.

Ideal For:

Bags and Accessories, Belts, Blinds, Curtains & Pelmets, Embroidery, Hand Sewing, Linings, Machine Sewing, Shirts and Blouses, Skirts & Dresses, Soft Furnishings, Tops and Tunics, Trousers & Shorts

We would not recommend this fabric for a heavy duty jacket, unless you were lining it; this is because light will travel through it if you hold it up, and would benefit from strcuture of a lining or interlining. For light weight garments though, this is perfect.
