An exciting development in haberdashery and sustainable fashion - organic cotton blended with natural rubber; a 100% biodegradable elastic!*
Ecru rubber tape with a red zig zag stitch line, 5mm diameter.
70% organic cotton, 30% natural rubber. Natural and unbleached apart from the thread.
Elasticity is 110%.
The red thread here is used as a decoration, along with a little bit extra stability.
Organic cotton is grown without the use of pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilisers, which means it is better for people and planet. Natural rubber is an existing resource that helps fuel local economies and prevent deforestation, without the need for synthetic polymers. It comes from Malaysian plantations where child labour is not used.
Blended together, this organic cotton and natural rubber elastic is kinder to the planet and better for your skin. It also prevents any possible nasty fibres washing away into our water. The organic cotton comes from Turkey. Dyeing is done in Germany, before production is conducted in Austria.
*Biodegradable; This elastic is unusual as it's 100% biodegradable. Elastic is usually made of synthetic polymers, which do not biodegrade and so continue to pollute the environment when thrown away. Of course, it won't start to biodegrade while you wear it! To kick start the bacteria needed to break down the material, ensure it is composted when it is eventually discarded (hopefully after many many years of love and use).
This rubberband is washable up to 40°C (104°F) and will shrink up to 5% in the first wash. We always recommend washing before sewing (in a load with like colours is absolutely fine) and to consider purchasing a touch more than you'll need - it's bound to come in handy.
Clothes, hairbands and accessories. Particularly good for hats, childrenswear, hair accessories and toys.
Use it with all light to mediumweight fabrics, such as shirtings and jersey.
