Paperlike Tussah Silk
Although the unwashed fabric is stiff, once washed, it softens and continues to soften with wear.
In its unwashed state, it can be stretched and used as canvas, it can be folded into Origami, it can be sewn into a light weight garment that stand out from the body.
As the fabric is woven on antique looms in a small mill in India, it has a beautiful, authentic irregularity to the finish, which adds to its uniqueness.
Tussah silk is wild silk that is typically gathered in the jungle from cocoons of wild silkmoths. Thus wild silk can be considered "organic", as almost all wild silk is wildcrafted. Tussah is occasionally semi-cultivated. The caterpillars are tended outside on plantings of Oak trees. Only practices consistent with Organic farming techniques are used in this raising of Tussah silk
CARE: Hand or machine wash using "gentle" cycle, lukewarm water and mild liquid detergent like Ivory or Crystal White (suitable for hand washing dishes). Rinse well and add vinegar to the last rinse if your water is hard. Air dry in shade or tumble dry on low heat. Do not over dry. For an extra sheen, iron dry from the almost dry - barely damp state, using a medium iron setting.
We recommend preshrinking all fabrics before cutting to sew, by washing them first. Warp ways shrinkage, about 3%, weft ways shrinkage about 4%
