Remnant: this is a washed piece of the olive tencel. We had found that a heavier detergent and also washing a large quantity in one go would cause agitation to the fabric surface, causing white lines and a washed overall colouring. This is still beautiful fabric, and as long as you're producing something that suits a softer vibe, this fabric will work wonderfully. It also potentially can be overdyed.
Price is per the remnant piece.
2.5 metre x 1.44 metre
A smooth and soft Tencel fabric, with a deep olive green base, and covered in anoversized paisley print. The textile is completely opaque, so you don't need to line the material or double it for clothing. Also available in Burgundy (none remnant). Use it for floaty dresses, blouses, jacket linings, silky pyjamas, cushions, accessories.
Tencel is actually a brand name for lyocell, a cellulose made from dissolving wood pulp. Solvents are used in the manufacturing so that the wood pulp mixture can be made into fibre, however these chemicals are kept within a closed loop. Manufacturing Tencel requires less energy and water than cotton, and Lenzing in particular sources its wood from certified and controlled sources like sustainably-managed plantations.
As well as using less water and land than cotton, this fabric in particular is reclaimed, meaning it has been saved from landfill. The dye process is also toxin-free, and lyocell absrobs dyes better so requires less of this than cotton too. It's naturally breathable, biodegradable (despite the solvents) and dries quickly.
To care for your product:
Note: this has already been washed. See above.
Suitable for the washing machine and tumble dryer.
Turn the machine down to 30 degrees for a more environmentally friendly wash. In Europe alone, if every household turned its washing temperature down to 30°C, we could save 12 million tons of CO2 a year.
We also recommend line drying as this reduces energy usage and looks after your textiles for longer. Use a mild detergent, light botanical refresher or even just steam the item you've made in your bathroom after a shower.
Please note: customers using supermarket (non-eco) bio laundry liquid have seen white lines appear on the fabric surface after washing. Please wash minimally and with an eco laundry liquid where possible, as this has been proven to avoid marking.
