A lightweight, satin-weave, lustrous Tencel fibre fabric in classic black.
Price is per metre. Multiple quantities will be cut in a continuous length.
This beautiful fabric is immensely pliable and drapey. Made entirely of a patented sustainable fibre, Tencel™, this fabric has the quality of luxurious silk and the handle and ease of sewing cotton, making it a particularly beautiful addition.
The lustre is subtle, with one side slightly less shiny than the other. It has a light, "barely there" feeling, which lends itself well to blouses, lingerie, sleepwear, lined dresses and floaty skirts, gowns and evening wear, and accessories like shawls and scarves. It's lightweight enough to be suitable as a lining fabric for jackets and coats. For homewares, it would make for ethereal curtains and blinds and is comfortable and cooling on the skin, so ideal for bedding.

The yarn is produced by Lenzing Certified Suppliers in India using the patented eco Tencel™ process and is woven into fabric within GOTS-certified mills across India.
Tencel™ is a lyocell yarn produced using Lenzing's protocols, guidelines and processes and verified for ethics and sustainability across the chain. Lenzing ensures responsible production in various ways, from the sustainably managed forests where the eucalyptus is sourced to the closed-loop production process (see below). Tencel™ yarn provides a responsible alternative to true synthetic materials like polyester and also silk derived from animals (so it is also a fantastic alternative for vegans).
The Tencel™ yarn production process verifies its managed raw material source to be sustainable. It also verifies the closed-loop solvent and water process, meaning that 99.9% of solvents are recovered and re-used with water treatment in place. It reduces chemicals, energy and water used for the production of synthetic materials and is a more responsible option than viscose, where limited traceability occurs.
Tencel™ is biodegradable. Biodegradation, for any raw material, can only occur in specific conditions, so we recommend labelling whatever you make with the composition of your garment. This will help ensure your item is re-used or recycled in the best way possible, with the least environmental impact.
The yarn is machine-spun, which means it has exemplar consistency and quality throughout the weave of this machine-woven fabric. The colouration is also smooth and equal due to the fabric dyeing process, and washes very well. The dyes are certified azo-free - azo is an organic compound used in dyes and is a known carcinogen - and all fabric is dyed within a GOTS-certified mill.
Due to the care and consideration of the low-impact processes, this fabric's dyeing and weaving processes are certified under the Global Organic Textile Standard.

Suitable for washing machines and tumble dryers. Wash with similar colours. To protect fabrics for longer, hand wash in cool water. Turn the machine down to 30 degrees for a more environmentally friendly wash. In Europe alone, if every household turned its washing temperature down to 30°C, we could save 12 million tons of CO2 a year. Suitable for irons med-hot temperature. We recommend line drying as this reduces energy usage and looks after your textiles for longer (as they don't get bashed around in your tumble dryer). Use a mild detergent, light botanical refresher or even steam the item you've made in your bathroom after a shower.
Stepped pricing is available on 25 metres and over, so please inquire if you are looking for large amounts. We love working with smaller brands: purchase one metre and upwards directly from the website and email us for wholesale quantities for bulk production when you're ready. We welcome large and small orders from brands of all sizes.
Please note that refunds are not possible once fabrics have been cut, unless in the unfortunate event that your material arrives damaged. Please order a swatch before purchasing your metre lengths. Please see our Refunds and Cancellation Policy page for full details.
Due to the nature of handwoven and hand-printed fabrics, there can be irregularities in the weave and print, along with variations in batch dye colour. We have quality controlled this fabric. However, there could be minor irregularities that we love and see as normal and charming. If you are unhappy with the material you purchase, please let us know, and we'll do our best to rectify it immediately: info@offsetwarehouse.com.
