White Draped Peace Silk
Soft and fluid, this spun peace silk has a lustrous drape and a subtle shimmer to it.
The wild silk worms that create this fabric are known as ""Eri"" silk worms. Their food is the castor-bean plant. As this fabric is produced on a non-chemical farm, the silk worms' castor bean nourishment is planted around the perimeter of the micro family farm cotton fields, which also act as a natural insect repellent.
Not only is this a ""peace silk"", where the worms are not killed in the process of the manufacturing, but this Eri fabric is part of a local government sponsored project, benefiting the impoverished hill tribe people of the highlands in Southern India. The silk worms are all hand reared and cultivated and the fabric is handwoven.
Eri dyes beautifully with natural dyes. We can provide this fabric in many naturally dyed colours: Rose Red, Symphonic Black, Indigo dark blue, Emerald Green, Therapeutic Gold, Oriental Carpet Red, Royal Purple, and we often have stock in others such as Warm Pink, Coral Blue and Green.
A more practical benefit of this fabric, is that it is easy care: simply put on a gentle cycle with a mild soap and warm water, and it can be tumble dried too. Ironing is optional, for a smoother surface finish.
Warp ways shrinkage aprox. 3%, weft ways aprox 2%
